Every Finisher Gets a Medal – New This Year at the Good Hope 5K 2026
June 12, 2026Ten Years of Running for Water: The Story Behind the Good Hope 5K
Ten years ago, a small group of runners on the North Shore of Massachusetts decided to do something about the water crisis in Africa. They were not a large organization. They did not have a massive budget or a national platform. What they had was a conviction that if they laced up their shoes and ran, they could change something real for someone far away.
So they ran. They raised money. And they built a well.
Then they did it again.
So they ran. They raised money. And they built a well.
Then they did it again.
Nine Races. Eleven Wells. Six Countries.
What started as one race and one well has grown into something that none of those early runners could have fully imagined. Over the past nine years, the Good Hope Running & Walking Well 5K has funded the construction of eleven clean water wells across six countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. Thousands of people who once walked miles each day to access unsafe water now have a clean, reliable source close to home.
Each well represents a community transformed. Children who used to miss school to carry water now sit in classrooms. Women who spent hours every day at the water source now have time for work, family, and rest. Families who once faced waterborne illness now drink safely.
None of it happened because of one person. It happened because of runners, walkers, volunteers, sponsors, and donors who believed that a 5K on the North Shore of Boston could reach all the way to East Africa.
This Year, We Run for Makhosiya, Zimbabwe.
On June 27, 2026, the 10th Annual Running & Walking Well 5K returns to Nahant Beach — and this year, we are running for Makhosiya, Zimbabwe. Six hundred people in this community are one well away from a completely different life. One well away from clean water. One well away from better health, more time, and greater dignity.
Your registration makes that possible.
Whether you run the full 5K, walk at your own pace, or simply come to cheer and enjoy the day, your presence and your participation are what fund the next well.
More Than a Race
The Good Hope 5K has always been more than a race. This year, the celebration includes live music, face painting, a Kids Dash (free for children under 10 with a paid adult registration), lawn games, a silent auction, popcorn, cotton candy, and a free lunch for all registered participants.
Come for the cause. Stay for the community.
Thank You to Our Sponsors
We are deeply grateful to the sponsors who make this event possible. This year, we are proud to recognize Whitley Wellness and Calvary Christian Church for their generous support and commitment to the Good Hope mission.

Doing Good Together
Founded in May 2013, we have funded the digging of eleven wells in Africa which provide clean water for many villages, crops and livestock. The average cost of a well can exceed $25,000 but one well can save hundreds of lives and change the lives of thousands of people.
If you would like to be part of our Good Hope Wells today, please consider volunteering with us, make a donation., or join our next 5K Race.
